Send your own warm cuddles with Valentines Day Teddy bears. There are so many different types to choose from, there are bears which can have personalised messages printed or embroidered onto the bear's T-shirt or jumper.

One of the great things about sending teddy bears at Valentines Day, is that they can be kept for years and years to remind your loved one of you.

If you can't be with your loved one this Valentines then a teddy bear is a great way of saying how much you love them on such a special day. When you order the bear make sure you include a special message to go with it.

Sometimes the message you include with the gift is just that little extra something that makes all the difference. Most companies will include a message with such soft toys and they can ensure the bear arrives on the exact day you want it to be delivered.

What makes the Teddy Bear so appropriate for this time of year is that one of the inventors of the this great toy put it in his shop window the day after Valentine's Day - 15th February 1903. See below for more on the history of teddies.

The History of The Teddy Bear

These cuddly toys have come along way since they were invented in 1902. Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was out hunting bears in Mississippi, but failed to kill any. His hosts didn't want to feel as if they had let the president down, so they caught a bear and tethered it so the Roosevelt could kill it. The President was annoyed and said "Spare the bear! I will not shoot a tethered animal". A cartoon depicting this scene was drawn by Clifford Berryman and published in the Washington post. In that same month, Morris and Rose Mitchton, shopkeepers from Brooklyn made a soft toy bear which they named after the President - "Teddy's Bear". This toy was displayed in their shop window alongside Berryman's cartoon. Overnight America went Teddy mad and the Michtons set up the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company which went on to make them a fortune.

Meanwhile a disabled German seamstress called Margarete Steif was working in the Steiff soft toy factory in Giengen had created a soft plush bear to the Company's catalogue. In the years to come Steiff sold millions of the bears to America and Europe.

Thousands of people across the world collect teddy bears and the early Steiff and American bears command high prices when they go on sale.

So if you want to send a very special present then consider sending a limited edition bear which will be a gift to treasure for many Valentines Days to come.
